Mother sheds six stone despite family tragedy

Llanelli Star - - LETTERS -

A HENDY mother is inspiring others to lose weight after shedding six stone despite a family tragedy derailing her efforts.

Danielle Gwynne, aged 35, started her battle against the bulge in 2015 by joining a Slimming World group in Llanelli.

She is now inspiring others after losing six stone in three years, sadly during which time her brother David died of a heart attack.

“For as long as I can remember and certainly for all my teenage years and adult life, I don’t remember being anything smaller that a size 16,” she said.

“At comprehensive school I was teased and, looking back, bullied by people that were meant to be my friends and this led me to withdraw from the people around me and comfort eat all the more.

“I started my Slimming World journey on February 8, 2015, and I walked through the doors dreading what was to come.

“I weighed in at 16st 8.5lb – however that number soon disappeared and I lost 6lb in my first week. I quickly learnt to plan out my meals, including lunches and evening meals.

“I needed to know what I was eating each day without thinking about it.

“I didn’t have time to cook four different meals, so I would have to pick meals that all the family could enjoy and they never knew any different. I would often create family meals like meats and spaghetti or pasta bake.

“I would look through the Slimming World website and Instagram to find different meal ideas. I also started to post my own meals there as well.”

She also says hearing others’ stories is a source of support, adding: “There is something about listening to each person share their struggle and realise it isn’t just me – to be able to just listen and share my experiences,

ylem, Burry Port Burry Port, challenges and being judged.”

Continuing her journey, she said: “In September, 2017, I was handed my 5st award. I was over the moon, it marked the most amount of weight I have ever lost, and my target was in sight for the first time.

“However, I didn’t know it, but it would take me almost 11 months to see that number again.

“On September 19, 2017, a week after his 35th birthday, I lost both, Five Roads,

Jerusa- Seion, Reho- tears without my brother.

“He died of a heart attack. “I don’t remember much of the weeks that followed but my eating once again spiralled out of control.

“I knew I had to make a change, I couldn’t run the risk anymore. I didn’t want my children to grow up without a parent.

“I once again faced the weight gain but this time I knew I wouldn’t see that number again – more importantly, I couldn’t.

“I knew I had to make this forever and change the habits of a lifetime.”

Turning to achievements within her Slimming World club at Parc y Scarlets in Llanelli, she said: “We have celebrated Miss Slinky 2017, Greatest Loser 2018 and Woman of The Year 2018.

“I was lucky enough to be crowned our group winner for each competition.

“After achieving a 6st weight loss, I am ecstatic to be able to help others to achieve their dreams as a Slimming World consultant, the same way Slimming World has helped me.

“I heard so many stories that so easily could have been my own and It’s hard to believe that little old me can inspire others to make a change in their life.

“I continued to stay in control and I have achieved a 6st weight loss overall. Even with the high and lows, I kept going and I am at my target weight.” Community of Christ (Trostre Road)
