Barnes steals the show as Llan bounce back to keep pressure on at the summit
LLANGENNECH responded to their home defeat by leaders Felinfoel in the perfect way by picking up a 27-20 win on the road at Kidwelly in One West.
Tom Barnes crossed twice for the visitors, with Dan Moyle and Gareth Davies also on the scoresheet. Carwyn Richards added two conversions and a penalty
The win moved Llan up into second place and above Gowerton, who went down 23-0 at neighbours Gorseinon.
Felinfoel were 25-13 to the good at home against Aberystwyth when their game was abandoned after 61 minutes due to a hamstring injury picked up by the referee, while Joe Packer’s hat-trick inspired Dunvant to a 48-7 victory over Llanelli Wanderers.
Ben Ley, Sam Hawkes, Sam Crowley and Adam Gregory were the other try-scorers for Dunvant, who roared into a 36-0 half-time lead. Adam Williams-Parry kicked five conversions and a penalty.
The game also saw hooker Sion Jones and scrum-half Adam Glen Williams making their debuts for the first XV. Lloyd Thomas got the Wanderers’ try, converted by Rhydian Morgan.
Crymych were 12-10 home winners over Whitland thanks to three Harri Williams penalties and one from Gareth Davies.
The only try of the match was scored by Whitland’s Jack Mason. Nico Setaro converted and also kicked a penalty.
Yr Hendy ran out thumping 66-28 winners at Tenby United, who remain bottom and without a victory in the league.
Two West leaders Penclawdd triumphed for the ninth time this term as they returned from St Clears with a 26-21 victory.
James Snell, Tom Howell, Rob James and Jon Hughes scored the tries with Howell also nailing three conversions.
Shaun Jones, Luc Rees and Daryl Jones all scored tries for Tycroes to help them win 19-17 at Mumbles. Richard Evans converted two of them.
Pembroke beat Carmarthen Athletic 26-10 thanks to tries from Toby Smith, Dan Colley, Fraser James and Sean Dalling. Smith added two penalties.
Josh Watson replied with a try for the Athletic, converted by Tom Gravell.
Burry Port edged out Fishguard 35-34, while Pontyberem were convincing 60-19 winners at Pontarddulais.
And tries from Scott Jones and Steff Davies, both converted by Owain Williams, were ultimately in a losing cause for Tumble as they were defeated 30-14 at home by Loughor.
Three West A leaders Milford Haven annihilated St Davids 119-5 and the game saw fly-half James Trueman smash the club record with a personal haul of 49 points.
Trueman helped himself to a hat-trick of tries and also landed 17 conversions out of 17.
And in Three West B Amman United, having suffered back-toback league defeats, got back to winning ways with a 36-0 home victory over Cefneithin.
Jack Evans bagged a brace, with Alun Lewis, Liam Danter and Ceri Jones also among the scorers. Steff Rees added four conversions while there was also a drop-goal from Joel Foster.
The local derby between Llandeilo and Llandybie went the way of the latter, who left with a 24-14 victory.
Nathaniel Butler scored twice for Llandybie, with Dan Brooks and James Tommason also dotting down. Ben Featherstone kicked two conversions.
Rhys Rickman got the Llandeilo try along with three penalties from Owain Roberts. The win for Llandybie backed up their success over Amman United the previous weekend.
Leaders Nantgaredig won 47-11 against Llangadog and have a 10-point lead on Amman.
Next up for Nantgaredig is their WRU National Bowl fifth-round tie at home against Blaina of Three East A on Saturday when a place in the quarter-finals is at stake.
