Dementia protocol launched
A NEW missing person’s protocol for people living with dementia has been introduced across the Dyfed-Powys Police area.
The Herbert Protocol is a national scheme introduced by the police in partnership with other agencies which encourages carers to compile useful information which could be used in the event of a vulnerable person going missing.
The protocol is named after George Herbert, a Second World War veteran of the Normandy landings, who lived with dementia.
The protocol asks carers, family members and friends to complete a form recording all vital details, such as medication required, mobile numbers, places a loved one may have previously located and a photograph.
Dyfed-Powys Police said the form should be kept in a safe place where it can easily be located and shared.
