Battle of the Bands Pontarddulais and Hendy District Festival committee held two public meetings during January and February to discuss new activities for the community. The Festival Committee has been running for over 50 years organising summer activities in the community. Their main annual event has traditionally been a carnival parade with a summer fete in the park. Normally the field activities finish at 6pm. This year following the public meeting the committee announced the traditional parade would not take place, but the summer fete would still continue. The committee has been busy organising the summer fete and many activities and stalls have already been booked. The committee has teamed up with the help of Pontarddulais Rugby Club and is pleased to announce that the fete will be bigger and better than previous years. After the traditional afternoon fete and show for all the family to enjoy, there will be a party on the pitch in the evening with live music. Pontarddulais Rugby Club is holding a Battle of the Bands throughout May. The winning band will be invited to play at the summer event, which will be taking part on Saturday, June 29. Local bands are invited to enter the competition — the winning band will also be offered a paid gig at the rugby club later in the year. For more details on the tournament, bands are invited to email bands@pontarddulais-rfc. co.uk or see the Pontarddulais and Hendy Festival Facebook page. Radio Tircoed will be at the main summer event again this year. They have been supporting it for several years.
