Pair bag braces to help Fera stretch advantage at top

-

YSTALYFERA are six points clear at the top of One West Central after they beat Brynaman 36-15 at the Ynysydarren Ground.

Luc Caines and Cameron Miguel ensured Fera picked up maximum points with a brace of tries each.

Gareth Jones and Ryan James added further touchdowns, while Gareth James and Steff Castle shared kicking duties for the three conversions.

Both Ystalyfera and Bonymaen have four league matches remaining, with Fera back in league action next Wednesday when they head to Maesteg Celtic.

They are also into the semifinals of the High Motive Glamorgan County Silver Ball after cruising past Rhiwbina 30-8 at Kenfig Hill in their quarter-final clash.

Miguel, Ryan James and Bowdy Davies were all on the scoresheet along with a penalty try. Gareth James added a conversion and two penalties.

Two West Central leaders Birchgrove now stand between Ystalyfera and the final, with those two set to clash at Glynneath on April 18.

Glynneath’s One West Central title hopes suffered a further blow as they lost 18-16 at Skewen and, despite still having a game in hand, they are now 13 points behind Ystalyfera.

There were wins on the road for Waunarlwydd, who won 36-25 at Kenfig Hill, and Ammanford, who bagged a 39-26 victory at Maesteg Celtic. Tondu moved closer to safety with a 23-17 win at Aberavon Quins.

A brilliant first-minute finish from Josh Tatchell, one of two tries for him, as well as one for Matthew Murphy, sealed victory. Tatchell kicked their other points.

The Quins’ tries came from Lewis Cronin and Rob Morgan, with two conversions and a penalty from Aled Jones.

One West leaders Felinfoel edged closer to the title with win number 16 of the campaign, a 2523 success at Gowerton.

Their cause was helped by Dunvant’s 28-12 defeat by Whitland. James Stephenson, Marc Jones and Gino Setaro scored for the Borderers, for whom Nico Setaro kicked two conversions, two penalties and a drop-goal.

Craig Hawkins and Robbie Morris replied for Dunvant, with Richard Lewis converting once.

Felinfoel, who have two games left, are 18 points clear of secondplaced Llangennech who, despite having a game in hand, cannot catch them. Yr Hendy, who thrashed Kidwelly 54-7, are third and 19 points behind Felinfoel with two games in hand.

Dunvant are fifth, currently 22 points behind Felinfoel but boast four games in hand and offer the greatest threat to Felinfoel’s chances of winning the league.

They play twice before Felinfoel’s next game but need to win both to stand any chance of catching them.

Llangennech drew 15-15 at Crymych, Llanelli Wanderers ran out 32-24 winners against Aberystwyth and Gorseinon won 17-7 at Tenby United.

There were big wins for the top two in Two West. Penclawdd whacked Tumble 71-14 and remain three points clear of Pembroke, who thrashed Loughor 67-7.

Penclawdd ran in 11 tries. Lee Gunnell and Kristian Corbisiero both crossed twice with Luke Davies, Danny James, Matt Evans, Ed Curtis, Matthew Donohoe, James Snell and Ryan James also dotting down.

Tom Howell (4), Rhys Eaton (2), Corbisiero and Ryan James added the conversions.

There were also wins for Carmarthen Athletic, Fishguard, Mumbles and Burry Port.
