RANGERS BACK AT THE SUMMIT

-

THERE is a change at the top of the Premier division of the LTC Mobility Carmarthenshire League as the season enters its final few weeks.

With Trostre Sports held to a 2-2 draw at Seaside, defending champions Bwlch Rangers now occupy pole position after a hard-earned 2-1 win at Dafen.

Trailing to an early goal, Bwlch battled back to claim maximum points thanks to goals from Liam Cooke and striker Clayton Jenkins.

Thanks to a goal in each half from striker Chris Waters, Trostre were twice ahead at various stages of the game against Seaside but eventually had to settle for a point.

Steve Stone and Ben Honeybun scored for Seaside.

Third-placed Gorseinon Athletic are still in the title hunt and are just three points adrift of the leaders following a hard-fought 2-1 win at home to neighbours Loughor Rovers.

The difference between the sides was the quality finishing of Robert Jones, who scored both the Gorseinon goals.

Pwll Athletic are still in desperate need of points in the fight to avoid relegation and were very much second best in the 4-1 defeat at Killay.

Ben Lynch scored two of the Killay goals, and there was one each for Adam Jones and Jack Lewis.

It was the same story for bottom club Tumble United, who suffered a 4-0 defeat at Pontarddulais Town.

For most of the 90 minutes it was one-way traffic, Bont taking command with a couple of well-taken goals by striker Joel Beynon. Also on target were Shaun Harris and Cameron Davies.

In the best of the action in division one, second-placed Ammanford Town Reserves, who have two games in hand, closed the gap on leaders Burry Port to five points after a mighty impressive 6-1 win at Johnstown.

Shaun Williams, with two goals, one a penalty, helped Ammanford take control, and there were also goals from Alex Arnold, Aaron Butler and Bruno Forkuoh.

The visitors were also gifted an own goal.

There wasn’t much to choose between Caerbryn and visiting Llandovery Town, and after 90 minutes of hard graft the game finished 1-1.

A goal from Liam Jeffries for Caerbryn was cancelled out by Chris Hyde.

There was a big shock in division two as Bancffosfelen inflicted on leaders West End United only their second league defeat of the season when winning their home match 4-2.

Bancffosfelen played some quality football and thoroughly deserved their success, the goals scored by Osian Harries, Dwayne Cassell, Jamie Jones and Kristian Forrest.

And in their last league game of the season, lowly KRUF produced probably their best performance in winning 7-4 at Penllergaer.

There was a hat-trick for Cameron Pearson, two goals for Rhys Willis, plus one each for Curly Kinsey and Chris Peters.

In the semi-final of the Senior Cup, Pontlliw proved too strong for FC Carmarthen in a 3-0 win.

But it wasn’t as clear cut as the scoreline might suggest, and FC Carmarthen gave their opponents some anxious moments in a tie that did both clubs proud.

Adam Scott netted twice for Pontlliw and there was one goal for Liam McCann.

In reserve division one, Evans & Williams moved closer to clinching the title following a 3-0 win in the away game against Pontarddulais Town.

The visitors secured the points with goals from Stephen Banfield, Ricky Chalinor and Calden John.

And it was equally comfortable for second-placed Gorseinon Athletic Reserves, for whom Scott James, Ashley Elsey, Lee Black and Aaron Bushrod scored in a 4-0 win at home to Pengelli United Reserves.

In reserve division 3 B, Drefach climbed to the top of the table after a 4-0 win at Caerbryn.

Leading 2-0 at half-time, Drefach made the points safe with goals from Chris Amos, Andrew Waugh, Simon James and Hedd Tudur.
