After very little training but with steely determination, Sarn Helen’s Martin Darby took on the Cheshire 10k and was pleased to finish the 6.2mile race in 54:31.

Mountain lover Dee Jolly dragged training pal Mitchell Readwin along to a feisty fell run in the Brecon Beacons. Tor y Foel fell race was held from and finished on Talybont Reservoir, a short race at 4.5 miles straight up and down the mountain.

Jolly worked hard to finish 2nd lady, 14th overall in 39:48, just 13 seconds behind the winning lady. Readwin enjoyed the descent and flew through the finish in a time of 48:02.

Six Sarn Helen runners took up the challenge of the Nant yr Arian Silver Trail Half Marathon in perfect conditions for the second staging of this new event.

The best of the bunch was George Eadon, who has seen a massive improvement over the last year. From a leisurely start he finished in a blistering time of 1.43:46 and was placed 1st senior male, a great achievement.

Jess Bruce was the next Sarn runner. She was looking to defend her title from last year, and despite finishing in 1.46.02, 10 minutes quicker than last year, she was edged into the 2nd placed female but finished 1st in her age group.

Eilir Evans ran strongly for a time of 2.00:25, and not far behind was Steven Holmes in 2.05:33, despite a lack of training through injury. Sarn Helen runners at the Nant yr Arian Silver Trail Half Marathon were Steven Holmes, Jane Holmes, George Eadon, Pam Carter and Eilir Evans.

Putting in the miles for her London Marathon training was Pamela Carter, the first of two events over the weekend for her, and it saw her finish in a time of 2.34:05 over this technical course. Jane Holmes powered home in 2.58:32 to complete her third half marathon of the year.

Sarn Helen had two junior females representing the club in the Silver Trail children’s race. Maddie Eadon and Alis Evans stormed round the 1.6-mile course with its tricky ascents and its windy descents, crossing the finish line together to encouraging cheers from the crowd.
