Fisher: Repeat this display and we can avoid relegation

PAUL Fisher has told his Llanelli players they must replicate their performance against Aberavon if they are to avoid relegation from the Premiership.

Llanelli scored 25 unanswered second-half points to claim a vital bonus-point victory over the Wizards at Parc y Scarlets.

“I thought we were excellent against Aberavon and we need to carry on in this vein for the rest of the season if we’re going to stay up,” said Fisher.

“We played with a lot of intensity and played some quality rugby.

“Getting that bonus point was huge.

“There’s four games left and 20 points left to play for.

“Securing the victory is the first priority but once that was done getting the additional point was massive, especially with it being so tight at the bottom of the table.”

A 20-point haul from Wales wing Tom Prydie, which included a try, along with a brace from Morgan Williams and a try from Greg George, was enough to secure the win.

Aberavon scored two tries of their own courtesy of James Garland and Ieuan Davies.

The visitors had the better of the first half, with Davies crossing from close range before Garland grabbed a stunning individual try.

But Llanelli hit back on the stroke of half-time when Williams raced over after a nice pass by Prydie.

George made amends for his earlier sin-binning as he forced his way over the line.

Wales Under-20s speedster Ryan Conbeer was the architect of Llanelli’s third try with an electric break as he beat four defenders before Prydie eventually touched down.

Morgan sealed the bonus point for the hosts with a cracking finish at the corner after some neat handling.

Aberavon head coach Jason Hyatt said: “We played some really good rugby in the first half and had Llanelli under the cosh for most of the game.

“The Aberavon scrum was excellent throughout and I felt that we should have had more reward from that as they got penalised nine times for collapsing the scrum.”

Llanelli are back in action this Sunday when they host RGC (1pm).
