Silver award for radio station

-

PRINCE Philip Hospital’s radio station has been recognised with a national award for its coverage of the NHS 70th birthday celebrations in July 2018.

Radio BGM, which broadcasts online and internally, was bestowed a silver award in the category for Best Special Event at this year’s Hospital Radio Awards.

During a star-studded event in Stoke-on-Trent, Radio BGM was among some of the best hospital radio stations in the UK to be nominated.

The national awards are an annual celebration of the excellent standards found in hospital radio stations across the country.

Organised by the Hospital Broadcasting Association and open to any member station, the awards are divided into different categories, each one recognising a specific area of excellence; some to individuals and others to stations.

Current serving chairman of Radio BGM, Dave Hurford, said: “We are over the moon. This is the first time Radio BGM has won an award and I think it just goes to show how much hard work our volunteers put in for us to be recognised on a national stage. A special thank you must go to them for their tireless efforts.

“The NHS 70th birthday was a nationwide celebration that many hospital radio stations up and down the country took part in. The bar was very high for us, but we couldn’t be happier that we have fought off some heavy competition to win a silver award for best special event.”

Speaking about Radio BGM’s entry the award judges described it as: “just a lovely entry, an uplifting, gentle, warm and well produced piece of radio that we loved”.

Mr Hurford added: “We are hoping the award and the status it carries will give us a boost as a station. The past 12 months have not been without their challenges, but we are in a great position and ready to welcome new members.

“We would encourage anyone who wishes to find out more or is interested in volunteering for Radio BGM to download our brand new mobile app or visit us online www. radiobgm.org.uk”
