Toilets strategy consultation

PEOPLE are being asked to spend a penny for their thoughts on Carmarthenshire Council’s draft toilets strategy.

Under the Public Health (Wales) Act 2017, the council has a duty to publish a Local Toilets Strategy. Now, members of the public can see what actions the council wants to put in place based on their feedback.

The council operates a number of public conveniences throughout the county and whilst local authorities have the powers to provide toilets, there is no legal requirement to do so.

With reduced resources, the strategy outlines the council’s long-term strategic approach on toilet provision.

The consultation asks for people’s views on whether public and private companies could do more to help make toilet facilities available, and about development of a community partnership scheme.

It also considers the provision of changing places toilets for disabled users; whether event organisers should be encouraged to provide temporary toilets; and charging for facilities to prevent misuse and vandalism.

All residents, businesses and organisations are invited to take part in the consultation, a short online survey, which runs until May 12, 2019.
