Library Easter egg hunt Today Pontyberem Library again hosts a children’s Easter egg hunt: mini chocolate eggs to be won. On Wednesday, April 25, there will be an Easter crafts day. All welcome. Opening times Mondays 10am to noon; Wednesdays 10am to 1pm and 4pm to 7pm. Free internet access. DVDs can be rented.

Donations in memory In remembranc­e of Alan Evans, Brandyway, who died on New Year’s Eve, his widow Pat recently presented a cheque for £500 to the Blind Society in Llanelli. The sum in honour of Alan’s memory, who endured visual sight loss, was presented to Ray Cooke JP of the society at their Vaughan Street office. Mrs Evans thanked all who generously donated to Alan’s memorial fund. The Blind Society representa­tive expressed their apprecitio­n to all who had given to the charity appeal.

Council Reaches 100 Pontyberem Council marks its centenary birthday on Good Friday. It was on April 19, 1919 that the newly created parish council, which became a community council in 1974, held its first meeting of councillor­s to serve Pontyberem, Bancffosfe­len and Capel Seion. Before then the community had been divided between four councils, namely Llanddarog, Llangendei­rne, Llanelly Rural and Llannon. It was not until 1931 that the first women were elected Pontyberem councillor­s. The current council chairman, Deris Williams has declared that celebratio­ns marking the council’s 100th birthday would take place in the village during the year.
