THE PERFECT PLACE TO STAY
I DON’T know how many hotels there are in Manhattan, hundreds certainly.
Which made it even more special that we stayed somewhere that wasn’t just comfortable as a base, it had a real warmth and homely feel I
hadn’t expected in the heart of The Big Apple.
Our base for our stay was the Roger Smith Hotel and it proved to be a truly authentic Manhattan experience.
A traditional hotel that is a world away from the usual chain hotels you find in cities, it is quirky, homely and prides itself on spacious habitable accommodation.
The hotel was a perfect fusion
of olde worlde charm with a modern twist.
It bills itself as ‘The great little New York hotel’, with classic furnishings adding a traditional feel and cosiness that was of stark contrast to the dizzying pace of the city.
The hotel’s modern element comes through its dedication to the art world, with pop-up exhibitions and displays at the forefront of its ethos.
There’s a great bar on the bottom floor and an even better rooftop bar with stunning views.
The rooms are equipped with everything you need, from huge flat screen televisions to the comfiest of mattresses and thoughtfully decorated and furnished spaces.
There’s even an unlimited yoghurt, fresh fruit and granola station in the reception for a quick snack on the go.
It is just a two-minute walk from Grand Central and a five-minute
walk from Fifth Avenue and Times Square.
There is something so charming and whimsical about the Roger Smith that it captured a bit of my heart.
