STEVE’S TOP TIPS:
■ Walk over Brooklyn Bridge for great views of the skyline and take a short walk to Dumbo to take the famous picture with the Empire State Building framed underneath the Manhattan Bridge.
■ Make sure you visit Ellis Island in addition to the Statue Of Liberty. This is a special walk through the history of New York.
■ Don’t be a slave to eating out. It’s expensive. Make the most of the cheap hot-dog stands, delis and pizza slices.
■ Plan the things you want to see in advance and make a note of the area and the local subway station.
■ Book the Statue Of Liberty Crown tour tickets at least six months before your visit.
■ Take comfy shoes.
■ Just stand on the side of the road with your hand in the air to hail a cab.
■ You can see the Macy’s Day Parade balloons being inflated the night before by the Natural History Museum. This is a huge event in itself and well worth a visit.
