Wanderers ready for new start

CARMARTHEN Wanderers start their season on Saturday with an away friendly against Abergavenn­y.

The following day they entertain Brecon at Trinity Fields with a 1.30pm start.

The following week they host Llandysul and are away to Ammanford on Sunday, April 28.

The South Wales Premier League 2 season starts on May 4 with an away fixture at Ynysygerwn. The seconds entertain their counterpar­ts at Trinity Fields.

Gareth Thomas will captain the first team. He takes over from Leighton Walters, who enjoyed seven successful seasons at the helm, including winning the SWCA Cup in 2017. Owain Binding is his vice-captain. Ian Taylor starts his second season as captain of the seconds with the side set to contain several promising junior players.

New recruits for 2019 are Pembrokesh­ire County players Iestyn Scourfield and Nathan Banner, together with former Llandysul captain Darryl Griffiths and Wales Under-15 spinner Owen Bailey.

The Wanderers entertain Clydach in the SWCA Cup on June 16.
