REDS CLOSE IN ON TITLE GLORY

ENTERING the final furlong of the Llanelli Snooker League season, table-toppers Matchroom Reds have one hand on the trophy.

They enjoy a healthy lead after a 5-2 win at Pontarddul­ais Workmen’s A. Lewis Grey (52 break), Paul Thomas (44), Phil Williams (44) and Frank Ellis were on top for the in-form Reds. Adam Griffiths and Matt Jones hit back for Bont.

Kieren Evans, Alun Harris and Paul Rees edged a 4-3 win for Pontyberem Workmen’s at Trimsaran A, who hit back via Lee Holland (33), Mike Lloyd and Carl Thomas. K. Proctor (30) and Luke Lloyd (33) chalked up decent breaks in defeat.

Morfa were 5-2 winners at Burry Port Legion thanks to Barry Follows, Greg Davies, Nicky Hughes and Scott Ashford (34).

Legion’s points came via James White and Keri Phillips.

Matthew Donald’s sole frame win at least averted the whitewash as New Lodge A crashed 6-1 at Reading Room Blues. Peter Kelly, Colin Foreman, Leighton Jones, Neil Roberts and Chris Howells struck for Clwb Bach.

Snooker World, for whom Chris Waters, Andrew Whitfield and Anthony Krysa won, edged an aggregate 4-3 victory against Gorseinon Workmen’s A. Mike Davies and the two Murrells – Keith and Luke – were on top for the Brighton Road side.

Tyler Rees, Dai Roberts and Leighton Davies edged Matchroom Whites home 4-3 at the expense of Llandybie Social A. Lyndsey Pugh, Tim Walters and Huw Morgan struck for the latter.

Dean Bowen was Llanelli Cons A’s sole frame-winner in a 6-1 reversal against Upper Tumble Blues, whose points were from Mark Hughes, Chris Rees, Elliott Rees, James Bradley and Carmarthen Athletic Under-16s are pictured celebratin­g their 20-8 Carmarthen­shire Cup win against Bynea. The team are looking forward to Regional Finals Day at Parc y Scarlets on May 12. Nicki Walters.

Alex Dickie and Mal Jones won as division two leaders Cross Hands B came unstuck 5-2 to visiting Llanelli Cons B, whose winning quartet were Viv Roach, G. Edwards, Gary Hunt and Paul Angelone.

Ponthenri Social narrowed the gap after a 6-1 success against four-man Pont Cons thanks to the efforts of Alun James, Craig Chandler and Jeff Howells.

Cross Hands A won 5-2 at Llandybie Social B and Llandybie RFC hammered Great Mountain, Tumble 7-0. Dylan Jones, Mark Hughes, Richard Davies, Sion Isaac, Liam McGhee and Dar Sigsworth completed the rout.

Llanesco were convincing 6-1 winners against Tycroes RFC B, while Calsonic Rivals came unstuck, losing 5-2 on their trip to Upper Tumble Reds.

Pontarddul­ais Workmen’s B were grateful to Chris Griffiths, Jordan Dubesky, Peter Hopkins and Danny Carr, winners in a 5-2 success at New Lodge B, for whom Leighton Cole and Paul Jones were on the ball.

CGMD claimed their best win of a sticky season, a 7-0 trouncing of Bryn, thanks to Mike Dance, Brian Chappel, Wyn Llewelyn, Mikey Hopkins, Lyn Hopkins and Raymond Evans.

Pontarddul­ais Workmen’s B claimed the first silverware of the season, beating Llanesco 4-3 in the seven-man Worthingto­n Cup final. Peter Hopkins, Lee O’Neill, Jordan Dubesky and Gethin Daniel edged them home.

Meanwhile, in the Heineken Singles, Tyler Rees and Phil Williams face each other in the final after 2-0 and 2-1 wins against Keith Murrell and Kieran Evans in their semi-finals.
