THE sun re­turned as Car­marthen Golf Club se­niors played their first match at Ash­burn­ham.

And fol­low­ing some solid golf un­der vice-cap­tain Huw Rees, they man­aged an ex­cel­lent 5-3 win.

El­wyn Mor­gan and Ge­orge Laid­law claimed an out­stand­ing 5&3 vic­tory, while there were 1up wins for Nor­man Ed­wards and Hywel Mor­ris, Ken Gealy and Jim Craw­ford and Mick Fen­ney and Pe­ter Jones.

There were halves for Fred Steel and Bruce Mor­ris and Gary Evans and Haydn Har­ries. Huw Rees and Nick In­gram and Tony Jones and Huw Michael tasted de­feat.

The re­main­ing se­niors played in a Waltz com­pe­ti­tion, and the com­fort­able winners with an out­stand­ing 88 stable­ford points were Len Davies, Alan Wil­liams and Clive Thomas.

Run­ners-up were Mervyn Lewis, Paul Ben­nett and Martin Phillips with 80 points, and they were three clear of Tim Har­ries, Stu­art Bar­clay and Clive Har­ri­son.
