Memory of mum inspires marathon fundraiser

-

A STUDENT from Llanelli is gearing up to run the London Marathon on Sunday in memory of her mum.

Bethany Lasky is hoping to raise money and support for the MS Society and has set a £2,500 fundraising target.

Her mother, Rachel, passed away almost five years ago from complications due to MS.

The 24-year-old dentistry student said: “This will be an amazing way to honour her life and to remember her.

“I am excited and equally terrified at the thought of this massive challenge.

“It will be the hardest physical and mental challenge I’ve ever taken up, but knowing it is for such a great cause and in memory of my fantastic mother makes it all worthwhile and will motivate me to run all those 26.2 miles!

“MS is a degenerative disease that approximately 100,00 people in the UK suffer from.

“The MS Society does incredible work providing support for those with MS and their families, funding research and providing resources to educate those who have been diagnosed and for their carers.”

Rachel was diagnosed with MS shortly after Bethany was born.

She said: “Though some may think that my siblings and I may have had a difficult childhood due to such a devastating diagnosis, both my mum and my dad did an incredible job of making sure we never felt different from any other children, never felt hard done by and could still develop into loving, kind and grateful people.

“My mum was a fierce, compassionate and strong-willed woman throughout her battle, she was resilient, brave and never stopped smiling.

“My family and I miss her greatly and I strive to be a woman that she would be proud of.”
