Clwb Hamdden Leisure club members met in the Bancffosfelen and Crwbin Hall on Tuesday, April 9. The chairman, Ann Langabeer sent her apologies for the gathering; Paul Gerard deputised in her absence. Apolologies noted and minutes of the previous meeting arrpoved. Payment for the York trip was received by Cy rees. He informed members of the outings to Thirsk, Whitby and the Yorkshire Mooors. The guest speaker was Owain Williams the longest serving prison officer who gave a talk aptly entitled ‘Behind Bars.’ Starting his career in 1971 at Leyhill young offenders institution, Lancashire, and concluding his profession in 2016 at HMP Swansea 45 years later. He highlighted how much the service had changed over the years. Highlights included his meeting princess Anne and attending a tea party in Buckingham Palace. Mr Williams was given a vote of thanks by the acting chairman for the most interesting presentation. The evening concluded with tea and biscuits. The next club meeting is on Tuesday, May 14, starting at 6.30pm. New members welcome at the meetings every second tuesday of the month other than August.
