Cwm bounce back in style

-

CWMAMMAN United bounced back from a midweek defeat at Undy to beat Goytre 4-2 in division one of the Welsh League.

It was a victory that condemned the Gwent side to relegation.

The win ensured Cwmamman kept the pressure on the sides above them in the Welsh League as they chase a top-three finish and was a welcome boost following their 3-1 defeat to Undy. Goals from Dan Jarman and Nathan Woods put Undy in command, though a Colin Harris penalty narrowed the deficit.

But a strike by Gareth Cullimore in the 66th minute gave Undy victory.

Cwm hit back in style with their victory over Goytre.

The visitors took an early lead when their winger turned neatly and slotted the ball past keeper Chris Curtis.

Cwm immediately worked Ryan Hurlow free, but his chip over the keeper hit the post.

Cwm then needed a magnificent one-handed save from Curtis when the ball was deflected to keep the score at 1-0.

The home side then turned on the gas and equalised when Hurlow rounded the keeper.

The second half was an open affair and a Colin Harris shot hit the post, while Chris Allen was upended in the box but the referee waved play on.

It needed something special to break the deadlock and it came from Ashley Johns, who latched on to a clearance about 35 yards out and sent a screamer into the Goytre goal.

Goytre levelled it up when a neat flick over the defence was headed home.

But more pressure from Cwm saw them retake the lead when a Cam Isaac header from a corner hit the bar and Colin Harris pounced on the rebound.

Curtis made a number of important saves and Cwm closed the game out when Hurlow flicked the ball into the box and Harris calmly volleyed home.
