Mixed fortunes for Llandysul with firsts well beaten
THERE was a disappointing start for Llandysul in division one of the South Wales Cricket Association as the Teifisiders were beaten by 101 runs by Cowbridge in the Vale of Glamorgan.
Cowbridge reached a respectable total of 162-9 at the Athletic Ground thanks to opener Thomas Merilaht (44) and the middle order of skipper Chris Willey (23), Samuel Routledge (29) and Tom Williams (29). Ashley Cox returned 3-24 and there were two wickets apiece for Luke Swift, Arfon Jones and Llewellyn Hughes.
In the Llandysul reply, opener Meurig Jones (19) was the only player to reach double figures as wickets fell regularly and the visitors were dismissed for 61 in 29 overs.
Seamer Brad Evans snapped up four wickets for three runs and the remainder of the wickets were shared between five bowlers as Cowbridge won by 101 runs. The home side picked up 18 points and there were five points for Llandysul.
There was better news in relation to Llandysul 2nds as Aled Jones and team-mates enjoyed a 106-run win over their Cowbridge counterparts in a division five game at Tir Dref.
In a Llandysul total of 183-5 in 40 overs, opener Gareth Chapple made 22, Dafydd Jones at first wicket down contributed 55 with seven boundaries, and No. 4 Lewis Jones top-scored with 64, which included six boundaries
The visitors were then skittled out for 79, giving Llandysul victory by 106 runs and 20 points. Dafydd Hatley returned figures of 3-11.
