Mixed for­tunes for Llandy­sul with firsts well beaten

THERE was a dis­ap­point­ing start for Llandy­sul in di­vi­sion one of the South Wales Cricket As­so­ci­a­tion as the Teifisider­s were beaten by 101 runs by Cow­bridge in the Vale of Glam­or­gan.

Cow­bridge reached a re­spectable to­tal of 162-9 at the Ath­letic Ground thanks to opener Thomas Mer­i­laht (44) and the mid­dle or­der of skip­per Chris Wil­ley (23), Sa­muel Rout­ledge (29) and Tom Wil­liams (29). Ash­ley Cox re­turned 3-24 and there were two wick­ets apiece for Luke Swift, Ar­fon Jones and Llewellyn Hughes.

In the Llandy­sul re­ply, opener Meurig Jones (19) was the only player to reach dou­ble fig­ures as wick­ets fell reg­u­larly and the vis­i­tors were dis­missed for 61 in 29 overs.

Seamer Brad Evans snapped up four wick­ets for three runs and the re­main­der of the wick­ets were shared be­tween five bowlers as Cow­bridge won by 101 runs. The home side picked up 18 points and there were five points for Llandy­sul.

There was bet­ter news in re­la­tion to Llandy­sul 2nds as Aled Jones and team-mates en­joyed a 106-run win over their Cow­bridge coun­ter­parts in a di­vi­sion five game at Tir Dref.

In a Llandy­sul to­tal of 183-5 in 40 overs, opener Gareth Chap­ple made 22, Dafydd Jones at first wicket down con­trib­uted 55 with seven bound­aries, and No. 4 Lewis Jones top-scored with 64, which in­cluded six bound­aries

The vis­i­tors were then skit­tled out for 79, giv­ing Llandy­sul vic­tory by 106 runs and 20 points. Dafydd Hat­ley re­turned fig­ures of 3-11.
