DEFEAT SPELLS END FOR LODGE

THE relegation picture became clear on the last night of the Llanelli and District Snooker League season, with New Lodge A relegated from division one after only managing a 5-2 loss against Matchroom Reds.

Adrian Dix and Michael Wood won frames, but the champions hit back, with Thomas Williams , Justin Thomas, Phil Williams and Andrew Rosser winning.

Needing a good win to have any chance of staying up, Burry Port Reading Room Reds crashed 7-0 on their trip to Pontyberem Workmen’s, who clinched the runners-up spot after Kieren Evans (56 break), Alun Harris, Kevin Selwood, Paul Rees, Emyr Bowen and Karl Goble all won.

It meant Llanelli Cons A survive, even after a 7-0 last-night drubbing at Matchroom Whites, for whom Tom Twigg, Dai Roberts, Dai Keenan, Neil Davies, Chris Davies and Tyler Rees were all on the ball.

Burry Port Legion are also safe despite losing 4-3 at Llandybie Social A where James White, Garnet Lane and Rich Evans won.

Llandybie’s points came from Huw Morgan, Roger Morgan and Lyndsey Pugh.

Trimsaran A ended their campaign on a positive note with a 6-1 victory at Upper Tumble Blues, the highlight a fine 65 break from Trim’s Carl Thomas.

Gorseinon Workmen’s topped the 100-point mark with a 4-3 win against Pontarddul­ais Workmen’s A thanks to Mike Dodd, Johnny Wilcox and Martin Tucker. Steve Davies, Matt Jones and Dean Marston replied for the Bont side.

Snooker World also reached a century of points with a 4-3 success at Reading Room Blues courtesy of Anthony Krysa, Chris Waters (34) and Andrew Whitfield (31). Chris Howells, James Ellis and Peter Kelly won for the Burry Port cuemen.

The division two title went down to the wire on the last night. Ponthenri Social led Cross Hands B by a point before both won 6-1, so Ponthenri claimed the crown.

Cross Hands were runners-up after defeating CGMD thanks to wins by Adrian Phillips, Alex Dickie, Jeff Jones, Mark Davies and Mal Jones.

Craig Chandler, Alun James, Craig Howells, Stephen Rees and Howard Thomas won in Ponthenri’s 6-1 win at Tycroes RFC B, whose only point came from Mike Davies.

Llanesco are the third promoted side after a 5-2 win against New Lodge B, while Llandybie RFC just missed out despite a 6-1 win at Pontarddul­ais Workmen’s B, whose Dai Gabe made a fine 40 clearance break.

The rugby club’s points were from Liam McGhee, Sion Isaac, Mark Hughes and Dylan Jones.

Llanelli Cons B ended with an aggregate 4-3 win over Calsonic Rivals thanks to Viv Roach, Kev John and Peter Jones. Meirion Richards, Marley Davies and Luke Williams replied.

Brandon Brown and Greg James chalked up wins for Great Mountain in the Tumble side’s 5-2 loss to Cross Hands A, while Geraint Thomas, Keith Williams and M. Aberstraw earned Pontarddul­ais Cons a 5-2 success at the expense of Llandybie Social, who finish bottom.

Steve Pearson and Howard Wood struck for the latter.

Noland Allinson, Nigel Beynon and Kevin Evans earned Upper Tumble Reds a narrow 4-3 win at Bryn, whose winning trio were Steve Holmes (29), Clive Richards and D. Evans.

The Worthingto­n Cup final will be held tonight when Morfa Social and Llandybie Social battle it out at the Llanelli Matchroom, cueing off at 7.30pm.

Matchroom Reds and Ponthenri Social, champions of divisions one and two, clash in the President’s Cup at Llanelli Con Club (7.30pm).
