Har­ri­ers stal­wart Hedydd claims top award

CAR­MARTHEN Har­ri­ers pres­i­dent and Dyfed Schools AA sec­re­tary Dr Hedydd Davies is the re­cip­i­ent of this year’s Ser­vices to Sportshall Ath­let­ics Award.

The Sportshall Team wel­comed nom­i­na­tions from all cor­ners of the United King­dom to recog­nise in­di­vid­u­als who have con­trib­uted much to sportshall ath­let­ics in their area and made this sport go from strength to strength.

Since 1992, he has or­gan­ised three in­door sportshall ath­let­ics events at Car­marthen Leisure Cen­tre – two at sec­ondary school level for Years 7&8 and Years 9&10 and one at pri­mary school – which have been well at­tended for many years.

In ad­di­tion, he has se­lected and or­gan­ised Dyfed sec­ondary schools to com­pete in the Welsh sportshall ath­let­ics fi­nals.

In the past, a num­ber of Dyfed teams have been tri­umphant at the Welsh fi­nals and then gone on to rep­re­sent Wales with dis­tinc­tion at the UK fi­nals.

The award was pre­sented to Hedydd at the 2019 UK Sportshall fi­nals com­pe­ti­tion in Manch­ester.

It was pre­sented by Ge­orge Bun­ner MBE, cre­ator of Sportshall ath­let­ics and the man who came to Car­marthen in 1992 to demon­strate pri­mary school sportshall ath­let­ics.
