Harriers stalwart Hedydd claims top award
CARMARTHEN Harriers president and Dyfed Schools AA secretary Dr Hedydd Davies is the recipient of this year’s Services to Sportshall Athletics Award.
The Sportshall Team welcomed nominations from all corners of the United Kingdom to recognise individuals who have contributed much to sportshall athletics in their area and made this sport go from strength to strength.
Since 1992, he has organised three indoor sportshall athletics events at Carmarthen Leisure Centre – two at secondary school level for Years 7&8 and Years 9&10 and one at primary school – which have been well attended for many years.
In addition, he has selected and organised Dyfed secondary schools to compete in the Welsh sportshall athletics finals.
In the past, a number of Dyfed teams have been triumphant at the Welsh finals and then gone on to represent Wales with distinction at the UK finals.
The award was presented to Hedydd at the 2019 UK Sportshall finals competition in Manchester.
It was presented by George Bunner MBE, creator of Sportshall athletics and the man who came to Carmarthen in 1992 to demonstrate primary school sportshall athletics.
