Curran steals show again with brilliant unbeaten ton

-

YOUNG skipper John Curran was again the shining star as Llechryd completed a victory hat-trick in division three of the Pembroke County Cricket League.

The 23-year-old opener has now gathered 262 runs in three innings, being dismissed just once. Although these are early days, the Teifisiders could be one of the frontrunners in the promotion race.

Carew 2nds posted 175-9 with Eugene McCarney (34), Rob Hicks (31) and Dai Rees (27) the main contributors.

John Lewis took 4-27 and Rhys Beard had figures of 2-27 as the visitors turned in some sharp fielding, with Joe Mansfield and Mickey Carter holding superb catches on the boundary and wicketkeeper Andrew Davies taking two catches and producing a stumping.

There were fireworks when the Teifisiders replied as Curran went after the bowling from the off and carried his bat for a brilliant 111, which included 11 fours and two towering sixes.

The captain was backed up by Lewis (34no) and James Betterley (24), with the target reached for the loss of one wicket.

Curran said: “Everything has gone great for us from the start and we are enjoying. Long may it continue.”

Llechryd 2nds also fired with a two-wicket win over Llanrhian 2nds at the RDM Oval.

Having been put in, the visitors at one stage were 51-5 as Kelvin Holmes took four wickets, but the tail wagged and they reached 130-9.

Captain Oliver Roberts took command with a well-compiled unbeaten 54, but despite his efforts it looked curtains at 108-9.

That’s when Holmes followed up his bowling heroics with a rapid 22 not out and guided his side to victory in the penultimate over.

In the same division, Crymych slumped to a 77-run defeat at the hands of Burton 2nds at Glandy Cross, the visitors posting 160-7 and dismissing the Preselimen for 83.
