AMMAN Valley Harriers bring two popular events back to the town this summer.

Following a record number of more than 350 participants at last year’s staging, the Ammanford Junior Fun Run for ages up to Year 8 makes a welcome return.

It takes place on the evening of Wednesday, June 5, at Ammanford Leisure Centre, on the running track behind the swimming pool.

It has seen the event develop into a popular fixture over the last few years in Carmarthenshire with a large turnout.

Registration is on the evening, opening an hour before the start at 5.30pm, with the first race getting under way at 6.30pm. There is an entry fee of £2.50. There will be medals to all finishers, with trophies for first, second and third in Years 1 to 8.

The event sponsors are Noelwyn and Sharon Daniel at Healthy Life Activities, who will also provide the medals and race commentary.

Last year’s winners were Seren Bowen, Iestyn Rees Jones, Jessica Norman, William Coles, Nell Davies, Macsen Toogood, Amy Tucker and Owain Thomas.

On Sunday, July 14, it’s the turn of the seniors, who will no doubt come to the rugby club in their numbers, having incorporated the West Wales 10k Senior Road Running Championships for the second year in succession.

Entries can be made online. This race follows the open-road route around Ammanford to Llandybie and the surrounding area.

Registration will be open between 8.30am and 9.30am at Ammanford Rugby Club, with the race starting at 10am. Online entry is just £8 affiliated and £10 unaffiliated plus booking fee. Athletes can enter online at www. runbritain.com

A prize of £60 will be awarded to the first male and female runners, with £30 and £15 for those in second and third.

Trophies are also available for Open Male, M40, M50 and M60, Open Female, F35, F45 and F55 as well as the male and female team trophies, in which the first three home count.
