TRALLWM SEAL TITLE SUCCESS

-

THE champagne corks were popping as Trallwm captured the LTC Mobility Carmarthenshire League Premier division title with a 3-1 win at home to Loughor Rovers.

Trallwm went into the game knowing that three points would be enough to avoid a title decider against defending champions Bwlch Rangers, and they did the business in style by winning their 14th league game on the bounce.

Leading 2-1 at half-time, Joel Andrews was yet again the hero with two well-taken goals for Trallwm. Also on target was Steffan Evans.

The Trallwm players could have been excused if they had had a hangover going into the last league game away to Bwlch Rangers, but they were determined to do their club proud by signing off in style. And they did just that in winning 5-2.

Joel Andrews struck twice for Trallwm, and there were goals for Steffan Evans, Jack James and Chris Ferrier.

Playing their last league game of the season in division one, bottom club Caerbryn suffered a 7-1 defeat at home to Pontlliw.

It was one-way traffic for most of the 90 minutes. Pontlliw quickly took control with a couple of goals from striker Adam Scott.

And apart from being gifted an own goal, Josh Scott, Jordan Gibbs, Evan Gibbs and Liam McCann were others to find the back of the net.

Trailing 4-0 at the break, Caerbryn were rewarded with a consolation goal from Lewis Rees.

And a 4-1 win at home to Burry Port last Saturday left Pontlliw needing just three points from the last two league games to secure the title.

Despite playing 70 minutes with 10 men, Pontlliw still managed to claim the points.

The goals were shared equally between Adam Scott and Liam McCann.

CK Swiss Valley completed their home league programme in the best possible fashion by defeating Ammanford Town Reserves 6-4.

Nine of the goals were scored in the first half.

Four of the goals for CK Swiss Valley were shared between Luke Limbrick and Marcus Edwards, while also on target were Robert Owens and Daniel Thomas.

In the West Wales Intermediate Cup final at the Liberty Stadium, meanwhile, Merlins Bridge proved too strong for Carew, winning 3-1.

It was Carew who looked the more threatening in the early exchanges of the first ever all-Pembrokeshire final, with Jordan Richards shooting wide from close range in the fifth minute.

Shortly afterwards Carew were denied again when Chris Ormond cleared off the line, while Sam Christopher saw his effort saved low down by keeper Gary Thomas.

But it was Merlins Bridge who drew first blood, a volley by Adam Hawkins finding the back of the net in the 14th minute. The chance was created by a cross from Laurie Haworth.

Their advantage was short-lived, however, and Carew deservedly equalised eight minutes later when Lloyd Hughes drilled his shot into the bottom corner to make it 1-1. That was the score at half-time.

Hughes was injured in the 43rd minute and replaced by Scott Ferney.

His departure was a blow to Carew, who fell behind for a second time when Hawkins struck again with his well-placed shot in the 63rd minute.

Merlins Bridge were on top at this stage, and had one hand on the trophy when extending the lead in the 82nd minute thanks to Ashley Beck, who lifted his effort over the keeper and into the top corner.
