StarALLTO PLAY FOR Champs off to fine t IN FINAL STAGES
AS the qualifying sections for the Carruthers Shield approach their final stages, there is still much to be played for.
Section 1 remains wide open as Parc William failed to raise a side to play against Carmarthen on Saturday. They must now try to rearrange the match before the National Open draw starts in mid-June, otherwise, the results of matches they have played in will be disregarded and they will be excluded from the competition next year.
Ammanford Park take over as leaders of Section 2 after a big home win against Dafen Welfare, but are left with two away matches over the next fortnight.
Brynhyfryd’s victory at Pontarddulais puts them in control of Section 3 and this weekend’s match at Blue Anchor should decide which of the two will go on to the next part of the competition, but Pontarddulais could still overtake them if Blue Anchor win and Bont produce a massive win at home to Calsonic.
In Section 4, short-handed Loughor visited Llanelli and won on three of the four rinks with Dylan Williams and Dean Bevan battling out a drawn game. Loughor now lead Gorseinon, who only managed a draw against New Lodge, and meet them for a decider at Parc William on Saturday.
Sections 5 and 6 will also be decided this weekend when Parc y Dre host Crusaders and unbeaten Kidwelly Town and Graig Merthyr meet at Parc Stephens, with a drawn match giving the qualification to Graig, who hold a superior shot difference.
In the Llanelli & District Bowling League, Gowerton hosted newly promoted Llangennech & Bryn in division one and won on all four rinks, giving them maximum points.
