Bowen boys are rattling in the winners

- Olivia Tudor

IT has been another great weekend for the Pembrokeshire-based Bowen family.

At Bangor-on-Dee on Saturday, jockey Sean won the opening novice hurdle for trainer Rebecca Curtis on Ruthless Article, who drew clear after the last obstacle and won nicely.

The second race was won by another Welsh trainer as Out For Justice, saddled by Katy Price, won under champion jockey Richard Johnson.

Sean’s younger brother James won the first division of the mares’ bumper for Nicky Henderson with Vegas Blue. The horse carries the same colours as Scottish Champion Hurdle winner Verdana Blue.

It was the mare’s first appearance on a racecourse and she looks to have an exciting future.

The second division of the race was won by Martha Brae under Sean Bowen for Lambourn trainer Warren Greatrex. It was her second start and she saw it out nicely.

Later in the evening at Uttoxeter, Cowbridge-based trainer Tim Vaughan took the opener with Dovils Date under his stable conditional Charlie Price.

Charlie opened and closed the meeting with a winner as Twycross Warrior won by 14 lengths for trainer Robin Dickin. Second was Biscay Bay, trained by Llancarfan’s Evan Williams.

There was no rest for Sean Bowen and Curtis on Sunday as they were at Stratford, with Full Time Party winning the first race of the day, a novice hurdle over 2m6f.

On Saturday, iconic ska band Madness – one of the biggest names in music since the late 1970s – are appearing at Ffos Las after racing.

It is a meeting that you won’t want to miss and is going to be the biggest event to hit Ffos Las since its opening back in the summer of 2009.

There will be seven jump races followed by a performance from the legendary band.

There are still a few tickets left for this event.
