HARRIERS BAG MEDALS GALORE

THERE were a host of medals for Carmarthen athletes at the West Wales Regional Outdoor Track & Field Championsh­ips at Swansea University.

The championsh­ips were open to competitor­s in all age groups from under-13s to seniors.

There was another big entry of almost 300 competitor­s from the region’s clubs and many of those made the trips from Pembrokesh­ire Harriers, Carmarthen Harriers, Llanelli AC, Swansea Harriers and Neath Harriers.

A total of 29 Carmarthen Harriers made the trip up the M4 and returned home with a total of 36 medals.

The squad featured Ellie-May John, Ellie May Williams, Casi Gregson, Luned Dafis, Frances Mackie, Carys Wood, Jessica Lee, Sophia ReidThomas, Amy Greatrick, Zara Evans, Cordelia Walker, Ellie Loweth, Tanwen Moon, Lili Church, Beca Roberts, Lauryn Davey, James Sloyan, Cai Allan, Macsen Toogood, Iwan Thomas, Frank Morgan, Rogan Cox, Matthew Vaughan Williams, Jack Thomas, Steffan Davies, Osian Roberts, Dafydd Jones, Morgan Batten and Trystan Leech.

Meanwhile, the red and white vests of Llanelli Athletics Club were also on show. Representi­ng the Pemberton-based club were Amelie Campion, Cari Adams, Kahlen Jones, Amy Tucker, Bethan Adams, Hannah Carpenter, Hannah Forkuoh, Danielle Franklin, James Thomas, Iwan Wilson, Evan Willock, Joseph Franklin, Dafydd Lewis, Callum Campion, Sam Evans and Jonathan Williams.

Several had been in action for their school in the Llanelli Secondary Schools Area Athletics Championsh­ips at Parc y Scarlets just 24 hours earlier.

Elsewhere, the Trap Show Charity Fun Run returned for the 32nd time to the Cennen Arms.

The 4.8-mile winner was Rob Kestin from Port Talbot Harriers in a time of 27:09. Just 30 seconds back was the first of the men’s vets 40 athletes, Gareth Davey from Llansamlet (27:43), with Gareth Harries of Cwmllynfel­l coming through for third in 29:14.

In the ladies’ event, Carmarthen Harrier Wendy Price was in fine form in her local race, taking the title in 31:48.

Amman Valley Harriers’ Clara Davies was next home in 32:32 and Louise Evans was third with 34:16.

It was a successful event once again from a Carmarthen Harriers point of view, with the first four overall positions occupied by the club in the junior event. Iwan Thomas came through to take victory in 16:59 followed by Scott Price in 17:10. Completing the quartet were Ifan Bowen (17:29) and Gwilym Jac Jones (17:38).

Winning age-groups athletes were Scott Price of Llandovery (17:10), Phoebe Davis of Llanfynydd (19:14), Burry Port’s Iwan Thomas (16:59), Rhiannon Lewis of Pantllyn (21:58), Gwilym Jac Jones of Brechfa (17:38), Llandeilo’s Martha Morgan (22:29), Dewi Williams of Gwynfe (19:19) and Sara Harries of Llandeilo (27:01).
