HAR­RI­ERS BAG MEDALS GA­LORE

THERE were a host of medals for Car­marthen ath­letes at the West Wales Re­gional Out­door Track & Field Cham­pi­onships at Swansea Univer­sity.

The cham­pi­onships were open to com­peti­tors in all age groups from un­der-13s to se­niors.

There was another big en­try of al­most 300 com­peti­tors from the re­gion’s clubs and many of those made the trips from Pem­brokeshire Har­ri­ers, Car­marthen Har­ri­ers, Llanelli AC, Swansea Har­ri­ers and Neath Har­ri­ers.

A to­tal of 29 Car­marthen Har­ri­ers made the trip up the M4 and returned home with a to­tal of 36 medals.

The squad fea­tured El­lie-May John, El­lie May Wil­liams, Casi Greg­son, Luned Dafis, Frances Mackie, Carys Wood, Jes­sica Lee, Sophia Rei­dThomas, Amy Greatrick, Zara Evans, Cordelia Walker, El­lie Loweth, Tan­wen Moon, Lili Church, Beca Roberts, Lau­ryn Davey, James Sloyan, Cai Al­lan, Mac­sen Too­good, Iwan Thomas, Frank Mor­gan, Ro­gan Cox, Matthew Vaughan Wil­liams, Jack Thomas, St­ef­fan Davies, Osian Roberts, Dafydd Jones, Mor­gan Bat­ten and Trys­tan Leech.

Mean­while, the red and white vests of Llanelli Ath­let­ics Club were also on show. Rep­re­sent­ing the Pem­ber­ton-based club were Amelie Cam­pion, Cari Adams, Kahlen Jones, Amy Tucker, Bethan Adams, Han­nah Car­pen­ter, Han­nah Forkuoh, Danielle Franklin, James Thomas, Iwan Wil­son, Evan Wil­lock, Joseph Franklin, Dafydd Lewis, Cal­lum Cam­pion, Sam Evans and Jonathan Wil­liams.

Several had been in ac­tion for their school in the Llanelli Se­condary Schools Area Ath­let­ics Cham­pi­onships at Parc y Scar­lets just 24 hours ear­lier.

Else­where, the Trap Show Char­ity Fun Run returned for the 32nd time to the Cen­nen Arms.

The 4.8-mile winner was Rob Kestin from Port Tal­bot Har­ri­ers in a time of 27:09. Just 30 sec­onds back was the first of the men’s vets 40 ath­letes, Gareth Davey from Llansam­let (27:43), with Gareth Har­ries of Cwm­l­lyn­fell com­ing through for third in 29:14.

In the ladies’ event, Car­marthen Har­rier Wendy Price was in fine form in her lo­cal race, tak­ing the ti­tle in 31:48.

Amman Val­ley Har­ri­ers’ Clara Davies was next home in 32:32 and Louise Evans was third with 34:16.

It was a suc­cess­ful event once again from a Car­marthen Har­ri­ers point of view, with the first four over­all po­si­tions oc­cu­pied by the club in the ju­nior event. Iwan Thomas came through to take vic­tory in 16:59 fol­lowed by Scott Price in 17:10. Com­plet­ing the quar­tet were Ifan Bowen (17:29) and Gwilym Jac Jones (17:38).

Win­ning age-groups ath­letes were Scott Price of Llan­dovery (17:10), Phoebe Davis of Llan­fynydd (19:14), Burry Port’s Iwan Thomas (16:59), Rhi­an­non Lewis of Pantl­lyn (21:58), Gwilym Jac Jones of Brechfa (17:38), Llan­deilo’s Martha Mor­gan (22:29), Dewi Wil­liams of Gwynfe (19:19) and Sara Har­ries of Llan­deilo (27:01).

Car­marthen Har­ri­ers Iwan Thomas, Scott Price, Ifan Bowen and Gwilym Jac Jones were the first four fin­ish­ers in the Trap 2.8 mile Fun Run.
