Shock loss for Cardis

SEVEN days after making an encouraging start to the season with an away win over last season’s Ceredigion Bowling Association champions Lampeter, it was a case of back to earth for Cardigan in Section 7 of the Carruthers Shield.

Colin James and his teammates lost 83-75 to Tregaron.

Rink scores (Tregaron names first): Gareth Jones 20 Paul Monders 11; Carl Garner 19 Andrew Clarke 20; David Bennett 22 Kevin James 24. The top visiting rink was skipped by Marc James accompanied by Dilwyn Jones, Sid Freemantle and Paul Edwards.

Lampeter bounced back from the opening defeat to bag a 35shot win over Aberystwyth.

Rink scores (Aberystwyth names first): Rowland Salmon 17 Elfan James 16; David James 16 Henry Jones 29; Ian Pugh 17 Nick Randell 21; Bertie Jones 12 Steve Entwistle 31. The best Lampeter rink was skipped by Steve Entwistle and included Aled Roberts, Tim Butten and Peter Fleming.
