Final is a step too far as valiant Stars are beaten

-

CARMARTHEN Stars Girls Under12s were beaten 2-0 by Llandarcy A in the final of the West Wales Women’s and Girls’ League Cup.

The first half was a tight affair, with the Stars able to shut down the potent Llandarcy attack.

With both defences on top and a very limited number of chances created by either side, the teams went in level at the break.

It always appeared that the first side to score would win the game, and that goal went to Llandarcy, who took the lead early in the second half.

As always the Stars battled to the end, but while pushing for the equaliser Llandarcy took advantage and scored a second to effectively end the game.

A club spokeswoman said: “We are extremely proud of what the girls have achieved this season, finishing third in the league and reaching the cup final in their first full season.

“We want to emphasise the fact that this is the first year of meaningful competition for the vast majority of this side.

“They were playing against mainly Year 7 pupils who had been playing together since under-8s, the majority of whom were in the West Wales and regional set-ups.

“We would also like to thank all the parents and family members who have been a great help with setting up the field at home games and their support both home and away all season.”
