Reds double up as they claim cup

MATCHROOM Reds came out on top as the two divisional champions of the Llanelli and District Snooker League met for the President’s Cup.

The Reds had a little too much for division two champs Ponthenri Social, who put up a valiant fight before going down 5-2 in an enjoyable encounter.

For the Reds, Justin Thomas beat Nigel Lewis 60-48, Phil Williams (76-64) defeated Craig Howells, Craig Price (91-58) beat Jeff Howells, and Andrew Rosser defeated Stephen Rees 85-74.

Ponthenri’s two wins came from Alun James, who beat Paul Thomas 101-47, and Craig Chandler (87-74), who saw off Frank Ellis.

In the Handicap Singles final held at the Matchroom, there was victory for Matchroom Whites’ Dai Roberts, who was on top of his game to coast to a 3-0 victory against Karl Goble of Pontyberem Workmen’s.

Roberts made breaks of 74, 40 and 32 during his victory, and also included a neat 57 clearance.

The annual presentation will be held this year on Saturday, June 22, at Cross Hands Workingmen’s Club.
