Elmer the Ele­phant day Pon­ty­berem Li­brary hosts a cel­e­bra­tion of Elmer the Ele­phant from 4pm to 6pm on Wed­nes­day, May 29 in the Me­mo­rial Hall. It is the 30th birth­day for the patch­work ele­phants book sto­ries. Chil­dren at­tend­ing can dec­o­rate an ele­phant pro­ces­sion. Pon­ty­berem Over 50 Club Leisure club mem­bers met in the Me­mo­rial Hall on the af­ter­noon of Tues­day, May 14. Chair­man, Brenda Stubbs, opened pro­ceed­ing with the Lord’s Prayer in Welsh. Con­do­lences were ex­tended to the fam­ily of Glan Mandry, Brandy­way, and of Euryl Bowen, Heol Y Felin, who both passed away re­cently. Birth­day greet­ings for May were ex­tended to Jean Wilkins, Beryl Mor­gan and Letty Davies. Eyrlys Mor­gan an­nounced the club day trip ar­range­ments to Cardiff on May 21. En­ter­tain­ment was given by Lisa’s Ukulele Group, com­pris­ing Lisa with club mem­ber Lenor and fel­low mu­si­cians Adrian, An­drew, David, and Steve. In ad­di­tions to the ukele­les there were per­for­mances on ban­jos and ban­joleroes. With song sheets dis­trib­uted among the ca­pac­ity au­di­ence all sung along with such melodies as Love Me Ten­der, Calon Lan, Yel­low Sub­ma­rine, Don’t Be Cruel, Sospan Fach, Imag­ine and Oh Suzanna. Rap­tur­ous ap­plause met the barn­storm­ing cli­max of the con­cert. A vote of thanks was give to the group who swayed the en­thu­si­as­tic au­di­ence with their per­for­mancee. The raf­fle was un­der­taken as all par­took of light re­fresh­ments. The club’s next gath­er­ing is from 1.30pm, Tues­day, June 11, in the Me­mo­rial Hall with a demon­stra­tion of mak­ing dec­o­ra­tive pa­per flow­ers by lo­cal mem­ber Carrie.
