Tai chi classes Tomorrow from 2pm Chinese methods of gentle exercises will be held at the Nantyglo Complex; these regularly occur on the second and fourth Thursday of the month. the Memorial Hall takes place tomorrow from 7pm in the conference room. Public attendance welcome.

Elmer the Elephant day Pontyberem Library hosts a celebration of Elmer the Elephant from 4pm to 6pm on Wednesday, May 29 in the Memorial Hall. It is the 30th birthday for the patchwork elephants book stories. Children attending can decorate an elephant procession. Pontyberem Over 50 Club Leisure club members met in the Memorial Hall on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 14. Chairman, Brenda Stubbs, opened proceeding with the Lord’s Prayer in Welsh. Condolences were extended to the family of Glan Mandry, Brandyway, and of Euryl Bowen, Heol Y Felin, who both passed away recently. Birthday greetings for May were extended to Jean Wilkins, Beryl Morgan and Letty Davies. Eyrlys Morgan announced the club day trip arrangements to Cardiff on May 21. Entertainment was given by Lisa’s Ukulele Group, comprising Lisa with club member Lenor and fellow musicians Adrian, Andrew, David, and Steve. In additions to the ukeleles there were performances on banjos and banjoleroes. With song sheets distributed among the capacity audience all sung along with such melodies as Love Me Tender, Calon Lan, Yellow Submarine, Don’t Be Cruel, Sospan Fach, Imagine and Oh Suzanna. Rapturous applause met the barnstorming climax of the concert. A vote of thanks was give to the group who swayed the enthusiastic audience with their performancee. The raffle was undertaken as all partook of light refreshments. The club’s next gathering is from 1.30pm, Tuesday, June 11, in the Memorial Hall with a demonstration of making decorative paper flowers by local member Carrie. Food item donations To assist local residents in need of support a food donations bank has been placed in the foyer of the Memorial Hall. Contributions gratefully received during opening hours.
