Food item donations To assist local residents in need of support a food donations bank has been placed in the foyer of the Memorial Hall. Contributions gratefully received during opening hours. Friday, June 14 from 10am to noon. All equipment is provided but please be sure to bring a pair of gloves. As well as cleaning up our local areas volunteers can also sign up to receive time credits. Everyone is welcome but children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.For further information please ring 07971 131184.
St Mary’s Church will be holding its annual summer fete on Saturday, June 22 at 2pm in the church grounds. Please note that this date has been changed from the original date. Entrance fee £1 which includes tea or coffee. Stalls include cakes, books, jewellery, bric-a-brac, clothes, toys, tombola, etc. Please come along and support St Mary’s and pick up a bargain at the same time.
Free heritage tours These walking tours are every Wednesday until September 25 at 10.30am from Cafe Lolfa, Stepney Road. Enquiries to 07946 583110. Singing For the Soul This is on Wednesday, June 5 and the first and third Wednesday of the month from 2.30pm to 4.30pm in Jerusalem Chapel Vestry. All are welcome. Group singing has a host of benefits like improving breathing, posture, mental health, confidence and self esteem. No experience necessary. Cost £3 per session to include refreshments. This is in association with the Pembrey and Burry Port WI. Enquiries to Dawn on 07773 312033.
Probus Group The Burry Port and Pembrey group met recently. The guest speaker was Alan Stephen Evans, the current editor of Llanelli Online and the Carmarthenshire Times providing reports and photography for an online local news website and social networks. Plus a magazine with 10,000 monthly distribution serving Llanelli, Carmarthenshire and worldwide online.He also conducts interviews with British politicians, civil dignitaries, businesses and organisations, marketing the brand through presentations and events. He gave a most interesting talk on his work in the West Country, London and more recently in Wales. He has been involved in education for most of his working life. From 1990 to 1992 he worked for the Romanian Angel appeal as an aid worker. A vote of thanks was given by Trevor Sage. The next meeting is on Wednesday, June 5 at the Ashburnham Hotel.
