Owens gets call for PRO14 dream team

-

SCARLETS skipper Ken Owens has been named in the Guinness PRO14 team of the season.

The Carmarthen-born hooker is one of just two Welshmen to make the team.

Ospreys full-back Dan Evans, who hails from Ammanford, is also included.

Cardiff Blues centre and Samoa international Rey Lee-Lo is the only other player to make the team from a Welsh region.

Amid a disappointing year for the Scarlets, Owens performed at a consistently high level.

He scarcely put a foot wrong at both domestic level and on the European stage and continually put his body on the line for his region.

But there was no place in the team for fellow Scarlets ace Johnny McNicholl.

The New Zealand-born back-three star, who qualifies for Wales on residency grounds this autumn, was named on the initial short list but missed out as Evans took the No. 15 shirt and Benetton’s Monty Ioane and Cheetahs flyer Rabz Maxwane took the wing berths.

Former Scarlets lock Josh Turnbull was another to miss out on the final XV having made the extended short list.
