Youngsters get in shape for popular annual fun run

AMMAN Valley Harriers Athletics Club bring two popular events to Ammanford in June and July.

The ever-popular Ammanford Junior Fun Run and Ammanford 10k road race returns to the streets of Ammanford, with races open to all ages and abilities from under-6s up to veterans.

And the Ammanford Junior Fun Run, which attracted more than 350 participan­ts in 2018, makes a welcome return. It takes place next Wednesday evening at Ammanford Leisure Centre, on the running track behind the swimming pool.

Registrati­on for all is on the evening, opening an hour before the start at 5.30pm, with the first race getting under way at 6.30pm.

Reception-age and under will be the first event over 400m of the track and this will be followed by a series of 800m for Years 1 & 2, Years 3 & 4 and Years 5 & 6. There will also be an event for secondary school pupils in Years 7 & 8 over the same distance.

There is an entry fee of £2.50 per athlete. There will be medals to all finishers with trophies for first, second and third in Years 1 to 8.

The event sponsors are Noelwyn and Sharon Daniel of Healthy Life Activities, who also provide the medals and race commentary.

Winning their respective race last year were Seren Bowen (Y Dderwen), Iestyn Rees Jones (Gymraeg Rhydaman), Jessica Norman (Llansteffa­n), William Coles (Llangadog), Nell Davies (Ffairfach), Macsen Toogood (Teilo Sant), Amy Tucker (St John Lloyd) and Owain Thomas (Dyffryn Aman).
