Ken breaks 2-hour mark
A RECORD number of entrants took to the hills surrounding the Teifi Valley for the 40th anniversary Sarn Helen Hill Race.
It was the club’s third race of the season and stretches for 16.5 miles across steep climbs, craggy outcrops and through woodland.
Complemented by a nine-mile non-competitive run along the valley floor, as well as 1.5-mile and 800-metre junior races, the day was a resounding success.
The 16.5-mile race attracted 83 competitors and the overall winner was Lee Shannon from Pembrokeshire Harriers in a time of 1:48:50.
Sarn Helen Running Club results in the Male Open category saw Kenneth Caulkett record a time of 1:59:36, with Irfon Thomas in 2:12:27 and Mitch Readwin in 2:38:40.
In the Female Open class, Caryl Wyn Davies was second in a time of 2:15:35, with Elisha Jones in 3:11:48 and Nicola Davies in 3:13:13.
In the Male 40, Dan Hooper took second in his category in a time of 2:05:51, with Nigel Davies clocking 2:08:48, Mark Rivers 2:22:00, Andrew Edgell 2:33:51, Eric Rees 2:38:46, Carwyn Davies 3:05:49 and Dorian Rees 3:08:28.
In the M50 category, Glyn Price was second in a time of 1:56:43, with Mick Taylor clocking 2:33:21.
Murray Kisbee took second in the M60 category with a time of 2:36:02. Heather Hughes took second in the F35 category in 2:44:04, closely followed by Sian Roberts-Jones in 2:45:24 and third in category. Joanna Rosiak clocked 2:50:18, Pamela Carter 3:10:09 and Emma Gray 4:18:58.
In the F45 category, Eleri Rivers took the trophy for first in her category with a time of 2:21:59, followed by sisters Delyth Crimes (2:36:00) and Enfys NeedhamJones at (2:56:48). Carol Rees ran a time of 3:07:41, followed by Liz Pugh (3:11:46) and Jane Holmes (3:31:04).
In the junior 1.5-mile race, Dafydd Lloyd was first in the secondary boy category in a time of 10:49, followed by Rhys Williams (11:44) and Jack Caulkett (12:56). Close behind were Owen Davies (14:09), Iestyn Stephens (15:29) and Johnathan Price (23:10).
In the secondary girl category, first was Violet Caulkett (14:26), second was Lucy Davis (14:51) and Maddie Caulkett took third (15:54). They were followed by Beca Jones (17:40), Elin Evans (18:23) and Nia Williams (19:08).
In the primary races, Tudur Lloyd was second in the boys’ class in 13:51. He was followed by Jacob Burton (15:09), Jeston Wyn Allan (15:37), Ryan Davies (16:05), Tomos Green (16:27), Steffan Rivers (16:50), Ben Hall (17:05), Jac Rees (18:11) and Christopher Readwin (18:42).
In the girls’ class, Eva Davies took first in a time of 14:08. Abigail Green was third in 17:19, followed by Poppy Caulkett (21:41) and Mari Rees (23:21).
