DUO SEAL THEIR SHIELD PASSAGE

-

THE final two places in the open draw for the WBA National Club Championship have been decided.

In Section 1, Carmarthen played and won their postponed match against Parc William in midweek and visited Llangennech & Bryn on Saturday with the winner taking the spoils. And it was Carmarthen who came out on top by 42 shots.

In Section 2, Ammanford Park’s destruction of near neighbours Tybie ensured their qualification to the next round.

The only real danger posed was the possibility of a big score by Havelock Park at home to Cross Hands. But surprisingly, a short-handed Cross Hands turned the tables, winning by a quarter of a shot, which took Havelock out of the equation.

National first-round matches take place on June 15 with home draws for Carmarthen, Ammanford Park, Brynhyfryd, Loughor and Kidwelly Town, while Parc y Dre face a visit to the West Glamorgan area.

In the Llanelli and District Bowling League, current champions Kidwelly Town opened their season with an impressive victory against promoted Loughor at Parc William, winning on all four rinks.

Elsewhere there were some close matches. At Old Road, Llanelli hosted Parc y Dre in a match that went to the very last bowl when visiting skip Rob Chisholm produced an excellent delivery to make four shots and win the match by one.

In division one, relegated Brynhyfryd held on to beat promoted New Llandovery Youth are pictured after winning the East Carmarthenshire Cup at Parc y Scarlets. They beat Llandeilo in an evenly-matched contest. Ryan Williams landed a penalty with the last kick of the match to win the game 16-15. Lodge by one shot, and in division two there was a similar result at Llandeilo, where visitors Ammanford Town took the spoils.
