Unsafe roundabout sculpture

Llanelli Star - - LETTERS -

Your views on: THE Swirl Cone on the roundabout near Bynea has been removed after being deemed unsafe. The central pole of the sculpture, said to represent Llanelli’s ties with the steel industry, had buckled following a collision with a vehicle. You said:

TRACY REES I thought it looked fab...

JAMES WATKINS Make whoever crashed there replace it.

STEVEN SALTER I liked it, the insurance company of the driver should put it right.

MARILYN JOY I really like it and hope they put it back. Nice to see someone had the imagination to put something different there. KIRSTY SAMUELS Looked like a maypole to me, don’t think anyone from outside the area would realise it was supposed to represent Llanelli’s heritage.

SHARON MCQUAIDE It was a complete eyesore and a waste of money from the beginning. SOPHIE EARL-PARK We’ve always called it the cheese slicer, I wouldn’t fancy being on a motorbike and hitting that thing.

DAVID BEVAN Quite amusing some of the posts calling it a waste of money... how much did the council spend on the stone walling on the two roundabouts leading to Trostre? At least it was unique.

ADRIAN PROPERTY My understanding is it was money from the EU that paid for the hamster cage and the stone walls. TRISH GRIFFITHS It was dangerous and a waste of money. STUART CHADWICK Trish Griffiths how was it dangerous? It wasn’t a car

GRAHAM OWENS Not a problem if people go around the roundabout instead of over it.
