Give windows a makeover for tour visit

-

BUSINESSES in Carmarthenshire are being urged to give their shop or office windows a makeover for the OVO Energy Women’s Tour.

The final stage of Britain’s most prestigious women’s cycle race is taking place in the county on Saturday, June 15 and Carmarthenshire Council wants to give the world’s top riders a big welcome.

Local businesses, particularly those in communities along the route, are being encouraged to enter a competition to create a stunning window display.

The competition will be judged by council chairman Kevin Madge and the winner will be announced on its social media feeds on Friday, June 14.

Mr Madge said: “I would urge local businesses to get into the spirit of the event and help make the final stage a real celebration. I am looking forward to seeing some spectacular window displays which will give the riders a real boost as they race through the county.”

Stage six starts at Carmarthen Park, where riders will complete a lap of the historic and recently refurbished Velodrome, and finishes at Pembrey Country Park, taking in the new, closed-road cycle circuit on the approach to the finish line. The closing date for entries is 3pm on Friday; take a picture of your window and email it to tourism@carmarthenshire.gov.uk. Include your name, business address and contact number and make sure you have the owner’s permission.
