Llechryd maintain promotion push as they stay unbeaten

-

LLECHRYD maintained their unbeaten record in division two of the Pembroke County Cricket League as they were held to a draw for the second week in a row.

But again they picked up a hatful of points to help their push for promotion.

John Curran and his team-mates are five points behind leaders Narberth, with Hook 19 points adrift in third and the rest off the pace.

The visitors just failed to winkle out the last three Haverfordwest Seconds batsmen, but a draw earned the visitors 28 points.

Llechryd posted 206-6, experienced left-hander Steve Smith stealing the show with a delightful 50 that included eight boundaries.

He was given support from Joe Mansfield (42), opener James Betterley (39), Rhys Beard (31) and Jonny Lewis (18).

Lewis Rhead picked up three wickets for the hosts.

Haverfordwest held out for a draw as Evan Watts and Filgi Varghese both contributed 34 and Nigel Morgan weighed in with 30.

James Betterley took 3-29 and there were two wickets for skipper Curran.

Having been put in, Saundersfoot Seconds posted 155-5 against Llechryd Seconds at the RDM Oval, thanks mainly to Steve Cook, who carried his bat for 77.

Medium-pacer Tom Beard returned figures of 3-29.

Chasing down the total, Ollie Roberts was again in brilliant form as he made 101 not out, an innings which included 13 boundaries. The target was reached for the loss of one wicket, with Andrew Fletcher unbeaten on 25. The Teifi Valley side banked 27 points.

In the same division, leaders Neyland Seconds won by nine wickets against visitors Crymych, who were dismissed for 64 as medium-pace bowler Kieran Allen took 6-11.

The pacesetters picked up a maximum haul of 30 points and there were two points for the Preselimen.
