Lloyd makes it a hat-trick with runaway city victory

-

LLANELLI’S Liam Lloyd continued his superb run of form to claim victory in the Swansea Triathlon.

Lloyd went into the race as the hot favourite, having claimed two titles in May.

He opened the 2019 Welsh Super Series with victory in his home race, the Llanelli Sprint Triathlon, then followed it up by taking the Welsh Standard Distance Triathlon Championship at the 2019 Tata Steelman in Port Talbot.

And he made it a memorable hattrick by crossing the line first in the city’s Castle Square.

Lloyd was up with the leaders after the 750-metre swim, then gradually took control on the 20k bike section.

But it was on the 5k run that he took firm command as he clocked a superb 16.49 to finish almost two minutes clear of second-placed Will Munday.

They were the only two to break the one-hour barrier, with Ross Simpson finishing third in 1.00.26.

Andrew Horsfall-Turner and Joshua Jones — the first junior home — rounded off the top five. Liam Lloyd crosses the line first. Pictures: click4prints.com
