Communication call over efforts to control TB outbreak

-

THE chairman of Llanelli Rural Council, Councillor Sharen Davies, has called for further public assurances on efforts to bring the Llwynhendy TB outbreak under control.

She said: “First and foremost, I would like to thank Public Health Wales and Hywel Dda University Health Board for the series of community screening sessions held in Llwynhendy over the last few days.

“However, it is only natural for residents to feel a little concerned about the impact of the screening process and what happens next.

“While target groups have been identified for screening, I would encourage any individual who is uncertain about their own particular circumstances to come forward and arrange to be screened.

“They can do this by calling 02920 827627.”

She added: “Going forward, timely communication about how effective the set of actions have been in bringing the TB outbreak under control will be paramount. This will be necessary to allay any ongoing concerns and to provide reassurance to local people.

“Although the rural council has not been directly involved in the screening sessions, it will be liaising with health officials about the next steps to be taken and what perhaps it can do to help communicate any important key messages to the local community, especially if it is felt that additional locality-based screening sessions are planned or if further control measures need to be introduced. I would like to reassure residents the council will be liaising with Public Health Wales and Hywel Dda Health Board in this regard.”
