Well on course to achieve cycling vision

-

IT’S all excitement this week ahead of the Women’s Tour this weekend!

I’ve just come back from a Go Ride cycling event with around 200 schoolchildren taking part from across Carmarthenshire.

It was wonderful to see so many female riders taking part.

The three-day event was organised and delivered by our leisure team as part of the celebrations of the Women’s Tour visiting Carmarthenshire on Saturday.

Although Go Ride is a national event, we decided to localise it make it an all-female event and encourage more young female riders into cycling. The aim of the event is to introduce young riders to the world of cycle sport and provides a platform to improve bike handling skills.

It’s also National Bike Week so it fitted in nicely. I’m sure you’re all aware by now that the county will welcome 100 of the world’s top professional cyclists, including World and Olympic champions, for the finishing leg of Britain’s leading professional cycle race on Saturday.

The 126k route starts in Carmarthen Park and finishes at Pembrey Country Park so we are all looking forward to see them cross the finishing line. Carmarthenshire has a host of first-class cycling facilities and together with activities such as Go Ride and high-profile events like the Women’s Tour, we are well on course to achieve our vision on making the county the Cycling Hub of Wales.
