Clwb Hamdden Leisure club members met on Tuesday, May 12, at Bancffosfelen and Crwbin Hall. Apologies for absence were noted and minutes of the April meeting approved. The chairman invited suggestions for future day trips and summer holidays. The meeting continued with a surprise for ex-chairman Cyrus Rees and his wife Marian when television presenter Alwyn Humphries from Prynhawn Da presented Cyrus with a Halen Y Ddaer plate and a bottle of whisky. He then talked to several members about Cy’s 17 years with the club and highlighted Cy’s involvement with the club over the years. Thanks were extended to Stella, David, Brian, Jean, Betty and Elsbeth for their contributions. Cy’s brother Alban also reminisced about their early days. Happy Birthday was sung to Alwyn on the occasion of his 75th that day. The evening concluded with a cream tea. In June members are to be addressed by Tweli Griffiths on his TV career. Crwbin Silver Band Rehearsals each Tuesday 7pm to 9pm and each Sunday 6pm to 8pm in the Crwbin Band Room.

Abba Night On Saturday, October 19, the London West End Denmark Street Band and singers return to Pontyberem Memorial Hall to render the hits of Abba on stage. Tickets for table seating £20 per person, gallery seating at £10 per person. Show will start at 7.30pm followed by a disco until late. Early booking advised to avoid disappointment. Tickets can be ordered over the phone via the Memorial Hall reception desk on 01269 871075.

Food item donations To assist local residents in need of support a food donations bank has been placed in the foyer of the Memorial Hall. Contributions gratefully received during opening hours.
