Senior Citizens Mynyddygarreg Senior Citizens Social Club held their monthly meeting on Wednesday, June 5. There were 27 present including officers Jean Fox, chairperson; Marian Lewis, vice-chair; Christine Hughes, treasurer, and Regina Morgan, secretary. The meeting started with Jean Fox leading us in the Lord’s Prayer. Minutes of the May meeting were read by Regina Morgan and passed. Welcome to a new member, Catherine Humphreys. There will be a coffee morning on Friday, June 21. All members were asked to sell tickets and be present on the morning. Pearl was thanked for making 10 more quilts to add to the 50 quilts already distributed to hospitals and women’s refuges, etc. The raffle was drawn and won by Dorothy and a game of bingo was also played. There were two guest speakers, serving policewomen and Trudy, who spoke to everyone on the danger of scams which are prevalent at the moment throughout the country and focusing mostly on the elderly. The advice was that if you receive a phone call you don’t recognise, do not get involved in conversation with the caller but put the phone down immediately. Never give your bank details over the phone. The policewomen were thanked for passing on such useful information. The next meeting will be on July 3 at the usual time of 2.30pm. The tea hostesses will be Hazel Davies and Carol Smith.
Coffee morning The Senior Citizens Social Club will be holding a coffee morning in Mynyddygarreg Hall on Friday, June 21, from 10am to noon. Please try your best to support this worthy event.
Only Mynydd Aloud Only Mynydd Aloud choir under the conductorship of Ioan Hefin, with Geraint Rees as accompanist, took first prize at the recent Mynyddygarreg Eisteddfod. Well done.
Probus The June monthly meeting of Kidwelly Probus Club will be held on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 10am in the Conference Room at the rear of the Gwenllian Centre. Get well Many of our villagers are not in the best of health at the moment. We wish them all a speedy return to better health. Mynyddygarreg Open golf tournament There are a few places still available for the Mynyddygarreg Open golf tournament that will be held on Saturday, June 22, at Glyn Abbey Golf Club. All the proceeds will go to Apêl Ail Gyfle/Second Chance Cancer Appeal. Apart from the individual and team prizes there will be a hole-in-one, longest drive and nearest the pin prizes as well.
