Cake and conversation Today from 10am to 1pm two local mental health groups host a cake and chat meeting for the public in the Memorial Hall. Eleanor Shaw, artistic director of People Speak Up, will set out how mental wellness improves by working with communities and for people, clients and carers to share their experiences and meet new people. Pram race On Friday from 6.30pm, on the eve of the Pontyberem Carnival the village hosts a fun pram race from the Memorial Hall.

Silver Band summer concert This Friday from 7pm the Memorial Hall is the venue for prize-winning Crwbin Silver Band’s summer concert. They will be joined on stage by pupils from Ysgol Bancffosfelen, Ysgol Llannon and Ysgol Bro Myrddin, Carmarthen, for a musical feast. Admission tickets will be on sale at the door at £5 and £3. Under their musical director Andrew Jones the Crwbin Band have been busy rehearsing for the National Eisteddfod at Llanrwst in August. Inquiries to the hall reception on 01269 871075.

Carnival and Welsh cycle race On Saturday, Pontyberem hosts both the annual carnival and a key stage of the Ovo Energy Women’s Tour of Britain. Around 1pm the race features. From 2pm at the New Lodge Inn a colourful carnival procession marches through the village to the park. The park will see the carnival entertainments for children with assorted games, donkey rides, plus an array of other activities. Additional volunteers can contact the Memorial Hall on 01269 871075.
