Bont see off champions

NINE months after being crowned champions, Newport remain rock bottom of the South Wales Premier League.

They slumped to a fifth straight reverse, losing by four wickets at home against Pontarddulais.

Without the services of skipper Matt Norris, Newport’s batting was severely weakened and they laboured their way to 152-9 off 50 overs. Iestyn Rees took four wickets for Bont, who got the runs with more than 10 overs to spare. Gary Arrowsmith made 46 while Cameron Herring and Lukas Carey saw them home, both on 31 not out.
