Llandysul lose ground

LLANDYSUL lost ground in the South Wales Cricket Associatio­n division one championsh­ip race after a 15-run defeat at the hands of fellow title aspirants Tata Steel.

The Port Talbot side lost their first two wickets for 15 runs, but Kelvin Bartle (26), Nathan Ferrell (39) and wicketkeep­er Richard Jones (46) steadied the ship to enable them to reach 153-8 in 50 overs.

Medium-pacer Ashleigh Cox returned figures of 4-14 in 10 overs.

In reply, Llandysul wickets fell at regular intervals and at one stage they tottered on 28-5 before Hugo Laing at No. 7 made 35 and No. 8 Luke Swift contribute­d 40. But the Teifisider­s were bowled out for 138 in the 48th over.

After excelling with the bat, Ferrell took 3-16 in nine overs as his side banked 18 points. There were seven points for Llandysul.

Llandysul Seconds fared better in division five with a twowicket win at Mumbles A.

The Swansea side were dismissed for 136 in 39.2 overs as Dafydd Hartley, Rhys Jones, Daniel Thomas and Carwyn Jones picked up two wickets apiece. Llandysul reached the target in the 37th over.
