School celebrates Urdd success
COEDCAE Comprehensive School pupils and staff are celebrating success at the Urdd Eisteddfod in Cardiff.
A spokesman for the Llanelli school said: “We most certainly have a very accomplished Welsh second language reciter in our school in Evie King.
“Reciting in the preliminary rounds at Ysgol y Strade, in March, Evie beat off stiff competition to get through to the county round in Pontyberem, in April.
“Nothing was stopping her and she stole the show once more to get through to the National Eisteddfod in Cardiff.
“A 6am start, Evie nervously entered her final stages, once again shining through among 14 finalists from all across Wales, with many a lot older than her.
“This led her to her televised performance on S4C, scooping third place, nationally.
“Her achievement made us all extremely proud. Not only was Evie placed third in Wales for her individual recitation, but Coedcae gained national honours for art and design, too.
“Ffion Thomas, year 7, gained first place in her 2D Design work.
“She produced a painting ‘Hustle and Bustle’, and the effects it has on everyday life. It most certainly caught the eye of the judges, and placed Ffion as Welsh Champion.
“Another very proud moment for Ffion, her family, and the school community.
“It didn’t stop there, though, for Coedcae. Congratulations to Jessica, April, Alisha, Aimee and Ayisha, all of year 9 – they took first place in the National Eisteddfod for their group 2D Design work. Again, based on the theme of ‘Hustle and Bustle’, the girls produced excellent work on a busy day at school! It was a truly outstanding piece of group work from a talented bunch of Welsh champions!”
