Pontyberem to Bala charity cycle tour Lasting three gruelling days against torrential rain cyclists from Clwb Seicio Cwm Gwendraeth successfully completed a 300-mile round trip from Pontyberem to Bala to raise funds for MIND. They set off on June 7 from Pontyberem CK’s with a presentation cheque for £100 from the village supermarket and free supplies of pasties and energy drinks to help them on their way. Store manager Melonie Jenkins and her Pontyberem CK’s team did an excellent job making sure the Gwendraeth charity riders had enough food and drink for their epic journey. Other firms donated free food and drinks on their route especially the along the steepest road in Wales in the Cambrian mountains, the ‘hellish’ stretch up Bwlch y Groes. On the first day battling monsoon rainfall the cyclist completed a 125-mile stretch. Additional donations, several hundreds of pounds were contributed to the Bont to Bala cyclists as they progressed. They returned from Bala to reach Pontyberem Park by June 10 to a great welcome from fellow club members and the wider community – all in aid of MIND, the mental health charity serving Carmarthenshire. Well done to these exceptional, fit, determined and compassionate guys – heroes all
